The MAS-AirAsia share swap (Part 5 - The finale)
Finally, the the curtain has come down on the drama surrounding the share swap (1). Now MAS can focus on being a true flag carrier that will make all Malaysians proud!!
So i will stop writing about the share swap and focus on the areas that MAS needs to develop to become competitive.
I would like to state clearly here that MAS has the right people in the organisation but the rights one are not at the right levels. As espoused by some quarters, the deadweights appear to be at management level where positions were given/created to people who are connected to the powers-that-be in our country. If these people are really good at their job then let them stay; if not, then please take them out and give it to those who have slogged and worked their way from the ground up. Its only fair. This should be the first step.
Secondly, please review all the outsourcing contracts. It has been alleged since the very beginning of the WAU (Widespread Asset Unbundling) that the contracts has always been a burden to MAS. It has been alleged that these contracts are lopsided and always favour the supplier/vendor/landlord. In particular the leasing of property and catering.
Thirdly, please put in place a fleet renewal plan! I'm not talking about the one that's in effect now to replace our planes which are well above 15 years of age. I'm talking about the fleet renewal plan to replace the new planes that you are receiving between now and 2015. Do you intend to fly them for only 5-7 years before replacing them with newer ones? or are you going to wait another 15 years before buying new aircraft.
Fourthly, keep abreast of what the competition is doing. Most airlines that fly in the region has a product (hard and soft) that are superior to ours. Garuda Indonesia has done a tremendous job over the last 5 years to re-brand itself against a stigma of being an unsafe/unreliable airline to fly with. The middle eastern airlines (Etihad, Qatar Airways, Oman Air and Emirates) are doing tremendously well in our region. They deliver great service all-round, sometimes with ex-MAS staff ! If ex-MAS staff can do wonders for the competition, why were they not kept to help MAS?
السلام عليكم
Peace be unto you

Hi bro... Nice write up and quite an extensive homework regarding the MAS-AA saga. We met just now at Starbucks Centro. Frankly, I haven't run through all your postings but the on the surface you do look kind of serious with all these plus the extensive research I guess. Now, I'm generalizing you LOL... Nah, just kidding. I found it quite interesting with all those "heavy question you posed on me during our brief chat just now. Anyway, keep it up and I promise you to run each and everyone of your piece bro.

Sorry for the late response..
DeleteThank you doraemon1972 for your kind words... i write (when time permits) more about Malaysia airlines because i love them.. the people who are in the airline should be treated with far more respect than is given.. if and when the airline is run with competent upper management who have the best interest of the employees at heart then i would love them even more.. i really hope that all decisions made there soon will bring Malaysia Airlines back to the greatness it deserves. For the people , for the country....
